Today's new item - Handbag from tapestry weave Nagoya obi

Recently, I have been fully focused on creating a new work of my own. I had collected a lot of ideas, but as soon as I decided to give them shape, I thought, "What kind of work would be good?" I wondered.

We have now finished a new work of art through trial and error, and we would like to introduce it to you!

This tote bag is upcycled from a plain Tsuzure Ori (Japanese tapestry weave) obi from the mid-Showa period. Plain Tsuzure obis are obis that can be used for any occasion (from "Tsukesage" to "Komon". It can be worn to celebrations and other formal occasions.), and although it is a single drum, it was considered a high quality obi and was very useful.
This obi, although plain, is woven with a simple Kasumi bokashi (mist), and has a good feel to the touch, with a unique combination of stiffness and smoothness.

With what a beautiful obi in front of me, I spent a lot of time thinking about it, imagining how the upcycling would look when it was completed.
This time, the bag was given a bit of a casual look with wood handles as accents.

A zipper pocket on the outside would be convenient for easy access to smartphones, keys, etc.

The main body of the bag is covered with piping made of the same fabric as the Obi.
The piping brings the overall impression of the bag together.
サイズは縦 23 ㎝ × 横 30 ㎝ × マチ 8㎝です。

The opening of the main body of the bag has a cover with a magnetic hook.

内袋にもファスナーポケットと貼り付けポケットをつけています。内袋は綸子生地を使用しています。

It was worth the time and effort to create this new bag, and I am very satisfied with the finished product. While the one-of-a-kind nature of upcycling is one of the best parts of upcycling, each piece is different, which at first glance may seem inefficient, but as an artist, I still want to continue upcycling with all my heart, valuing the inspiration that comes to my mind.

If you are planning to start some lessons next year, this bag is also highly recommended. We would be happy if you could take this Tsuzure Ori handbag along with you on your daily travels.
