It has been unusually hot every day, and this year Himizuya has been doing the summer dry-out work of Kimono again and unexpectedly found a 100 year old crepe Kimono fabric. The colouring of the classic flower motifs is so beautiful that even after 100 years, it does not look old at all. I think it was made in the Taisho era (1912-1926), but the large, bold patterns keep me looking at it for a long time.
This is a colourful crepe Kimono fabric. This time, two Kinchaku bags and two Sukiyabukuro were made from the right-hand crepe with a flower pattern. Other items in the shop include Juzu Bukuro.
Kinchakubukuro
These are two types of crepe with a classic floral pattern in purple, but the colours are very bright and you can feel the advanced textile printing techniques of that era. Do you see the difference in the patterns?
Sukiyabukuro
Himizuya's signature Sukiyabukuro are also full of cuteness. When placed side by side, they are even more elegant and gorgeous.
I was impressed by how carefully the fabric had been preserved and was in very good condition, even though it is probably not considered to be commercially available nowadays.
Of course, the challenges are how and to what extent work needs to be performed in the production like as selecting the right lining for individual product.
I'm sure it must have adopted the styles and trends of the time, and I'm excited about what kind of item I'm going to create and how I can connect it to the current trend...
