Work at atelier - Handbags and Pouches upcycled from Kimonos and Hakama

We upcycled a hakama and kimono set kindly provided by an acquaintance.
I guessed it was likely the kimono and hakama worn at the graduation ceremony. The splendid pattern was truly impressive, and the beautiful fabric seemed to encapsulate the memories of the graduation ceremony itself.
Keeping the memories intact, we wanted to upcycle them into something usable in everyday life. After creating various prototypes, we ended up with a compact “tote bag and zip pouch” design.

袴バッグ

The firm texture of the hakama fabric is utilised to create a durable finish that resists losing its shape. The patterned parts of the kimono are boldly positioned at the front.

The tote bag with a zip fastener is a practical item that combines a clean, simple appearance with functionality.
The zip closure features a top-opening design, allowing the bag to open wide for easy access to items inside.
Furthermore, when securely fastened, the bag's overall shape becomes neatly defined, creating an elegant impression.
It's the perfect companion for a short trip.

袴ポーチ

A compact pouch that makes the most of its elegance.
It is the perfect size for storing small items such as lip balm and hand cream.
We have created a unified look by pairing it with the bag.

This time, we have upcycled the kimono and hakama provided to us. As always, we worked hard through trial and error, adjusting the patterns and selecting the appropriate lining materials to suit the fabrics. We are grateful for the opportunity to gain another valuable experience in such a wonderful way.
